Keep an Eye European Jazz Award 2011

Muziekstudenten uit heel Europa konden meedingen naar de Keep an Eye European Jazz Award. In deze ‘European Solist Final’ presenteerden zes solisten zich aan jury en publiek. Ze werden begeleid door een trio onder leiding van Hans Vroomans, pianist van het Metropole Orkest.

Wilfried Wilde awarded Best Soloist European Keep an Eye Jazz Award?During the European Soloist Final on Sunday, 3 april 2011, French guitarist Wilfried Wilde was awarded Best Soloist. A gifted guitar player, who communicates his ideas on stage with great eloquence, the jury said. Drummer Tony Vitacollona (BE), last Thursdays Best Musician during the Amsterdam Band Final, won the second prize. The third prize was for talented guitarist Espen Bjarnar from Norway.

All candidates for the European Soloist Final were accompanied by a professional trio featuring Hans Vroomans, pianist with the Dutch Metropole Orchestra.

Daniel Mester Quartet winner Amsterdam Band Final ?Daniel Mester Quartet won the Amsterdam Band Final on Thursday, 31 march 2011. The jury complimented the band with their strong performance. The band received the  European Keep an Eye Jazz Award (designed by Astri Blokbergen) and € 2500,-. Caspar van Wijk of the Van Wijk / Derudder Quartet was awarded with best composition of the evening. Drummer Tony Vitacollona from the same band, was the best musician. As a result, he will compete with the other five soloists during the European Soloist Final in the Bimhuis.

The European Keep an Eye Jazz Award is a competition for outstanding young musicians from the best professional jazz training institutes of Europe. This year's competition included band coaching and a masterclass with Kurt Rosenwinkel.
