  • Trempera! (eerste prijs en door naar finale)

Bruno Calvo – trumpet, Lluc Casares – tenor sax, Xavi Torres – piano, Giuseppe Romagnoli – bass, Joan Terol – drums

Trempera! has its origins back in 2009, when Xavi, Bruno, Joan and Lluc met for the first time in Barcelona and started to play together. The connection between them in musical and human levels was so strong that they decided to start a band together in Amsterdam, where they moved to study their master degree. With Giuseppe Romagnoli on bass, one of the finest bass players in the CvA, Trempera! promises beautiful yet powerful music. Everyone is having fun here. Trempera!

  • In Rhythmic Colour (tweede prijs en door naar finale)

Bernard Van Rossum – tenor saxophone, Vuma Ian Levin – guitar, Xavi Torres – piano, Marco Zenini – double bass, Jeroen Batterink – drums

'In Rhythmic Colour' is an attempt by Vuma Ian Levin to discuss and abstract upon the beautiful, often contradictory South African national project. Joined by Jeroen Batterink, Marco Zenini, Xavi Torres and Bernard Van Rossum, the group came together at the Amsterdam Conservatory. The band blends: the drive of the American Jazz greats, the melancholy, introspective, sparseness of impressionism, the accessibility of popular music and the sounds of traditional and contemporary South African music.
